Danny Taing, the founder of Bokksu, found memorable local snacks in Japan and recognized that access to them in the United States was limited.
The 2015 origin moment began when Danny came home to the United States with Japanese snacks to share. Friends and family loved them, but the family businesses behind many regional specialties did not sell abroad, motivating him to address the gap.
The documented shipping milestone arrives in 2016: Danny handled boxes from his living room. Bokksu then grew past those early batches and into more than a monthly box service.

EXPLORE EARLIER THEMESDanny points to the Japanese White Strawberry from Nagano Prefecture, noting a crunchy bite, tart character, and a finish that is not too sweet.
Danny places his count at over a thousand snacks. What he values at Bokksu is the exchange that follows—boxes of delight and culture delivered to food lovers, followed by their feedback.
Bokksu looks forward through the same lens: authentic Asian food can move cultures closer together.
